Debate continues to rage in Australia over how to stop
asylum seekers from taking dangerous sea journeys to its
shores.
Indonesia is used by many people traffickers as a transit port.
In the second half of our series on Australia's immigration dilemma, we look

attempting to stop the people smugglers.
Al Jazeer(Comments) 1 =3 out of 4 refugees are on welfare. Payments have
increased by 100's of millions $. Meanwhile areas in society like
disability cant get the funding and help they need to live decent lives. We
should be looking after our own rather than welcoming the 3rd world to our
door step. When will it end? Why are we liable for their countries problems?
Australia will be as bad as their homelands eventually.

territories cannot be ignored as "irrelevant" to the solution of the issue.
People smuggling is like drug smuggling, to defeat it one has to tackle it
at different parts of the chain. You can't defeat it by simply treating the
symptoms. Of course, one also has to look beyond Indonesia, but without
Indonesian smugglers this chain would break much more easily. Also, there's
a humanitarian aspect to this, people die on these boat trips, so it's
unethical not to act against people smugglers.
